"First time to Nicaragua, looking for some good surf, and since my girlfriend came along I wanted a comfortable place to stay. The condos are nice, overlooking the beach; surf is a walk out the front door. The condo was spacious, well-equipped, good AC , satellite TV, etc. There is no supermarket nearby but several restaurants in the area, one on-site. Great surf the week I was there, not crowded."

This beachfront condo has a very private view since it is located next to an estuary at the North edge of the Hacienda Iguana development. From the balcony, you have a direct view of the surf break at the Los Perros point and the spectacular wave action breaking on the rocks. 100 meters down the beach is the World Class Break, Ponga Drops, a consistent reef break. A short walk to south end of the beach brings you to the Colorado Surf Break - sometimes referred to as the Nicaraguan Pipeline. Surf boats are also available to take you to additional breaks - but you may not need these because the best surfing in Nicaragua is here.
Surfing at Nicaragua's Hacienda Iguana is a unique experience - situated along the Pacific coast, just north of the Costa Rican border, you'll find two of the best surf breaks in Central America, Colorado and Ponga Drops. The location is a premiere area with consistent off-shore winds on this 2-kilometer resort beach. See the above links for more details on the property.
The property is located in a development named Hacienda Iguana Golf and Beach Club. It has a 9-hole golf course with plans to expand. It is safe and secure. The beach is pristine and there are great places to hike right outside the front door. Nicaragua is the the safest country in Central America and the Nicaraguan people are extremely friendly. There is a restaurant in the development but no grocery store. We recommend that guests bring all their food from Managua. The closest shopping is in Rivas which is about 45 minutes away. Fruits and vegetables and a small store are available in Tola, about 30 minutes away. There is a fishing village nearby where you can arrange a fishing trip or buy fresh fish. The water at Iguana is potable. Sky Cable TV, Internet and cell phone service are available on-site.
"We've been to Costa Rica, but nothing compares to the Pacific Coast of Southern Nicaragua. The locals are pure and friendly; the land is diverse and picturesque; the beaches are long and peaceful; the water and air is warm; nature is bountiful; the surf, fishing and golf are epic; and the wind is offshore over 330 days per year!"
The peak season for big swell ranges between April and September. You also have a very consistent head/overhead swell with clean surf conditions in March and November. Offshore winds are typically strongest during March and April.
Hacienda Iguana is located in the Tola region, on the Pacific coast of Nicaragua north of San Juan del Sur. The region starts with Brito beach and goes all the way to the turtle reserve at Chacocente. Tola is home to some of the best surf beaches in all of Nicaragua. This stretch of Nicaraguan pacific coast is famous for it’s great surf.
